Imagine you are a young man from a hill village near Pithoragarh. You finish four years in the Army and come home. What now? In Uttarakhand the answer has two parts. There is a clear job quota, and there is a new cell to help you find work. This guide explains the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation in plain words.

From promise to written rule

The state first spoke of a quota in 2024. The Cabinet approved it on 13 August 2025. Then, on 1 September 2025, the Department of Personnel and Vigilance issued the Horizontal Reservation Rules, 2025, as press reports say. What the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation gives you

10% horizontal reservation in direct recruitment to uniformed Group C posts.
Exemption from the physical test in direct recruitment.
Relaxation in the upper age limit, equal to your years of service as an Agniveer, according to a press report.
The benefits are for permanent residents of Uttarakhand who left the Army, Navy or Air Force as Agniveers.

Horizontal means the quota cuts across all categories. It does not replace the usual caste-based quotas.

Which posts are covered

Reports name posts in five areas. Different news reports use slightly different post names, so check the rule text. The list includes:

The new Agniveer employment cell

In July 2026 the Chief Minister said Uttarakhand would be the first state to set up a dedicated Agniveer cell. Retired Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, who is leading the plan, said the cell will work under the Chief Minister’s Office with a single window. It will explain state schemes, banking steps and

self-employment help. A government order for the cell was still awaited when we checked.

This cell is not the same as the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation. The quota gives you a place in a hiring round. The cell is meant to guide you to jobs and schemes. The state has also announced grants for border village residents, including ex-servicemen and Agniveers, to build self-employment facilities such as homestays. Pay under the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation

A police constable in Uttarakhand sits at Level 3 of the pay matrix, which runs from Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100 in the 2024 recruitment notice. Allowances depend on your posting. Always check the pay line in the latest advertisement.

How to apply: step by step

Collect your discharge certificate, service record and character certificate.
Get your Uttarakhand permanent residence certificate. Without it you cannot claim the benefits.
Watch the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission and the Police website for the next notice.

Candidates who track the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation should also note that the first Agniveer batch is due to leave service around the end of 2026. Constable hiring in recent years has been run by the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission. The next round may name its own dates and tests. Keep your documents in both paper and digital form.

Agniveer discharge certificate and service record.
Character certificate from your unit.
Uttarakhand permanent residence certificate.
Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, plus any higher degree.
Aadhaar card and passport-size photos, in paper and scanned form.

Most claims fail on paperwork, not on merit. Order your residence certificate early, because the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation is open only to permanent residents.

Common mistakes to avoid

Assuming the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation covers every government job. It covers named uniformed Group C posts only.
Applying without a residence certificate from Uttarakhand.
Trusting a post name from a news site. Check the official rule text.
Waiting for the employment cell to find you a job. Keep applying in every hiring round.

What we could not confirm

We could not open the full text of the 2025 rules online. So the exact age relaxation, the full post list and the cut-off dates for each recruitment are not officially confirmed here. Reports agree on the 10%

figure, the physical test exemption and the residence condition. Treat every other detail as something to verify in the official gazette or the latest advertisement.

How it compares with other states

Uttarakhand gives 10%. For the Uttarakhand Agniveer reservation, that is lower than some states. Uttar Pradesh gives 20%, and West Bengal announced 20% in August 2026.
